It is amazing, just three months ago the streets were full of people. Some were locals, others were from out of state, or even from out of the country. Then COVID-19 hit and rocked the whole economy. While some industries have faltered and are at risk of dying; there are also industries that are thriving. As social distancing and stay at home orders became more prevalent, the need to be able to work from home and avoid stores increased. This need helped E-Commerce companies, Meal-Kit companies, and Technology companies grow during the pandemic.
E-Commerce
Online shopping is booming across the country as Americans have been forced indoors and out of stores. Buying groceries online have become a common practice since the pandemic began. It is not just online grocery shopping that has increased. People are going online to buy books, at home training equipment, and other craft kits and projects to work on while home. The largest increase in products have been for health care like disposable gloves, soaps, and hand sanitizer.
Meal Kits
People are cooking at home a lot more now because of the COVID pandemic. With some people avoided supermarkets, the demand for pre-rationed fresh vegetables has risen. As trips to the grocery store have become more difficult customers say that they appreciate the wide variety of food that can be bought and show up at their doorstep. With an increase in meal-kits demand companies like Blue Apron are even hiring staff to pack kits and support production. Executive of Blue Apron Linda Kozlowski claims that the company has enough capacity, has the equipment, and has the ability to expand the supply chain to keep up with this industries growth.
Technology
Since the beginning of the pandemic more and more people have been forced to work from home. The ability for employers to still hold meeting and communicate efficiently with employees will never change. With so many employees working from home being able to communicate is needed more than ever. This has caused videoconferencing tools like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Skype have increased its usage across several businesses. Holding meetings via videoconferencing is not the only way technology has helped Americans during the pandemic. Streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Disney+ have seen increase of streaming content by 40-50%.
The COVID-19 Pandemic has affected the world in several ways. Having to stay at home in isolation has been the most noticeable. Luckily, this created a need for E-commerce companies, Meal-Kit companies, and Technology companies. E-Commerce companies were able to grow because of an expanding need for online goods. Meal-Kit companies saw an increase of demand because of people cooking at home more often. Technology companies thrived because of the increase need in videoconferencing and the usage of streaming services.
